It would be good to see some meaty opinion articles on here. Someone should write about the ways that the decisions of federal government, state government and bodies like the VC’S committee affect students.

great idea. you could also do an article about how great it is that no one has to pay student services fees. That fee was such a waste of cash.

No sarcasm, why should I fund a shitload of stuff I don’t want or need?

I just think it was better when we had more services available and it was more run by students (isn't it now half run by staff?). It adds to campus life.

I so agree students need the chance to have some areas of control at universities.

Students having a degree of control over services is vital for a good campus environment. Students should be the best positioned to decide what services are vital. The only way to really ensure that it is students who are making the decisions is too get funding from by means external to the university administrators. ie. a fee paid by all students to the student organisations.
When student rely on taking money from the university to provide services, they become dependent on the administrators and then it is they rather than students who have control over what services are provided since they can choose to withdraw funding.

student service fees are a hard one for a lot of people. I'm totally pro, but I've met , and know a whole lot of people who thought they were a waste of time and money. The thing is, that the first years this year might not realise what they were missing out on by not having to pay the fees - and thus not having the services. I think its hardest for the people who have been here a while..... they get angry about how things used to be around here and what "shouldn't" have changed

I am begining to think that if there was a fee I wouldn't pay it. although in the past I have been antiVSU I don't think FlindersOne really would deserve my fees. They don't seem to do a whole lot for students.

But that's the point. With the fee, students could run things, and it was better.
