Over the next few weeks wewill be creating an Faq to help new members with the forum. If you have a question which you think should be included please post here.

Q: How do I register for the forums?
A:You can register by clicking on the register button at the top of the board index and every thread. Alternatively you can click the here -> http://flindersstudents.com/news/component/option,com_registration/task,register/ Once you have filled in your details you will need to reply to an email to activate your account before you can log in and post.

Q: What is my Personalized Picture: and how do I change it?
A: Your Personalized Picture: is the small image that appears next to every post that you make. You can easily change the image by clicking the “profile” button which appears at the top of the board index and every thread. Or this link

Then click “Forum Profile Information” from the side menu. Your Personalized Picture can been changed using the options  that now appear at the top of your screen.

Q: How do I reply to a post?
A: Once you have registered to use the forum you can reply to posts by clicking on the reply button which appears at the top and bottom of every thread. Once you have clicked this button you will be presented with a screen containing an area to type your message and a number of options. Once you have finished constructing your pst simply click “post” to make the post or “preview” to see what your post would look like.

Q: How do I create a new topic?
A: Once you have registered to use the forum you can create a new topic quite easily. Navigate to the board in which your new topic should exist. Click the “new topic” button which is located at the top right of the board index. You will then be  presented with a screen containing an area to type your message and a number of options. Once you have finished constructing your pst simply click “post” to make the post or “preview” to see what your post would look like.

Q: What is Karma?

A:Karma is your means of rewarding people who make good constructive posts and punishing those that you feel make posts that are frivolous or offensive. Once a member has more than five posts in the forum they will notice that two links will appear beneath each user. (Smite / Applaud ) When you see a post that you strongly like or dislike simply click either link to punish or reward that member. You must wait a minimum of one hour between each click on either smite or applaud. A users karma rating is the sum of all smites and applauses.

Is there a way to insert images in posts ???

Q: How do I insert images into posts?
A: Images can be inserted into posts in two different ways. The first way involves attaching the image file to the post in the same way which you might attach a file to an email. You can attach a file to a post by clicking on the “Additional Options...” link which below the window for inserting text. A thumbnail version of attached image and a link to display a full size version will be displayed at the bottom of the post. You can see an attached image at the bottom of this post. Attached files will not be available to nonmembers who are browsing the forums.

Alternatively images can be displayed within the post itself by using BBcode to link to them. The BBcode for inserting an image is If you want to learn more about using BBcode then Wikipedia (http://wikipedia.org/wiki/bbcode) is a good place to start.

Can we host images on flindersstudents.com or should we use a photo service?

I use http://tinypic.com/ for storing my photos online.They will store the image for you and then you can link to the image from here.

I use www.photobucket.com but I was just wondering if we could upload images to the forum. Doesn’t matter photobucket is heaps good. ;D

-Online at this stage due to the high cost of printing and our distinct lack of money.

-No one exactly owns FlindersStudents. It is intended that people who make the decisions as to how it will be run are the people who contribute to it. Hopefully we can remain as democratic as possible but we haven’t quite worked out the details on how this will work.

Whenever I first log on I see that there is normally just me on the board. But after awhile a whole lot of guests show up. Are these real people or is there a bug?
