Someone has probably already bitched about this but...what the hell? I pay for a parking permit which is grossly overpriced and it's impossible to get a park anyway if you happen to have anything between 10am-1pm. You gotta be real early or real lucky to get one.
I'm just pissed coz today i parked in that desert area past biology for a lecture in FMC, then u gotta walk back up these ridiculous hills...we need solar powered chair lifts.

Yeah but think of the money you are saving in gym memberships. All that walking will have you fit and toned in no time.


I think they should have an area that cars can park for free. IE the dirt car parks near biology perhaps. 

You could always carpool, bike or bus it.

You would save money on petrol, parking and help the environment

I can imagine it is difficult for students who have classes at FMC. If I were you I'd ditch the car and take the bus - it drops you right outside the door.

I heard from a friend (so it may very well be wrong) that they put the cost of parking up by about $40 in 2006 so that they could build more parking spaces. The way I see it the should have an extra $400,000 for parking spaces from the fee increase. So where are the extra parks????

(400,000 = 10,000(estimated number of staff and students who buy parking permits) * $40(approximate about of the raise)

they should build a multilevel carpark in carpark 1. That way heaps more people could park there rather than walking from siberia or from sturt. (like I had to do yesterday)

its ok walking TO car park 1. it sucks walking FROM it, up the hilly bits.

That would only piss off the people who paid for a full year permit but get forced into it anyway.

As for where the extra parks are that we're paying for, the  carpark on Humanities road has gone double story, and there's a big new double story carpark down by FMC.

The humanities rd car park has been double story for years. Long before the fee increases.
The big new car park down near the med centre wasn’t built by the uni, that belongs to FMC

don't you just love turning up to classes sweaty and out of breath.  ;)

yeh and have you noticed the way they put the fee up and told they're building parking....but they won't drop the price when theyre done

I don't think the uni should be building heaps more parking on campus anyway. It would be better for them to invest in strengthen public transport to and from the uni and encouraging students to use it.

I cant imagine carparks requiring too much maintenance either so surely the uni cannot justify a fee increase with that.

I got to carpark 9 today at around 9:30 and there were only a handful of parks left on the dirt.

Walking is good for you, but its damn frustrating when you cant find a park and have to rush to every lecture, especially with the heat we have been experiencing in summer. Its just not fun

Some more public transport around or to and from the uni would be handy

The loop bus does okay, but I guess it could be improved. I don't know why they changed it this year, it seemed fine last year.
As for to and from uni..... are you kidding? There are probably about 15 different bus numbers that go through the uni/FMC.

Believe it or not there are some dead spots that are really hard to get to uni from, via buses.

I know because I work with international students and one of the first things we do after picking them up from the airport or finding them a house is make sure that they can catch the bus from wherever they are staying to uni.

There are spots, some quite close to uni, from which you need to catch two sometimes three buses to get to uni.

But generally the buses to uni are pretty good.


One issue that has to be addressed is cheap rental accommodation near uni. Especially housing suitable for families, but that is a separate issue.

Yeah I suppose I didn't stop and think, I just thought about the number of buses that go through the place, lol. I have to get two buses to get to uni and I just live up the hill in Flagstaff Hill. It sucks.

yeh i live at seaford...going from there to uni on a combination of bus and train is like going from sydney to melbourne via perth

Do you get an inflight movie and a drinks cart on your trips to uni?

How long does it usually take you to get to uni? I live in Seaford too, and I estimated that it takes around 2 hours to get to uni using public transport. Really does suck for those days with just a 1 hour lecture or when you're just there to hand up an assignment. Luckily enough I have a car, so it never takes me more than 30mins.

And yes, parking is getting a little annoying this year. Hopefully it should ease a little next week as this Friday is the last day to withdraw without penalty.

after more than three years of  bearing with the uni car parks, I can't imagine how anyone can bare it or defend them in any way?? It is a curse and anyone that can look at the bright side of this and suggest anything except more car parks or the complete annihilation of say, sturt uni, (for  starters),  must be taking anti-depressants or dealing with them by correspondence. uummm?? I just woke up and now I have the harsh reality of actually trying to find one, maybe I am being a little harsh for that reason?? (but I dont think so :) )

Why annihilate sturt campus? And parking can't be /that/ bad. If all else fails, I say, go to car park 2 or 3. Sure you have to walk further but..

You have to catch two busses!?  You mean you don't catch 218U/218/618 on the way to uni?  Two of them take you up to Flinders Med and one of them takes you up to campus!  I've always found it to be relatively easy going to uni.  Which busses are you taking?

I get a bus to the FMC and because the hill is REALLY steep and I'm a lazy bum I get another bus or the loop bus.

yeh, you pretty much want to allow for 2 hours (4 hours travelling!?)...that's just a little ridiculous for me, so I drive...and struggle with car parking

That's basically the deal. I went around carpark one 3 times today and there's no way I'm parking in siberia for FMC lectures...so I parked in the child car centre parks right out the front of FMC - at that point I couldn't give a damn what anyone thought or if I got a ticket (which I didn't). It's a complete joke. Again, i bought an overpriced flinders uni parking permit and I cant even use it! Go figure

The uni probably issued more permits then there are car parks, try and squeeze a bit more money out of us

Will that make a difference? How many people do you tink will pull out at the census date?

Well the drop out rate for the last few years has been around 35% and it has made a difference in the past
